Buying a Villa in Tuscany
Tuscany is one of twenty regions in Italy but possibly the most famous and sought-after.
The classic ‘Tuscan Villa‘ is actually not as predominant as you may think. Villas in Tuscany that are the ‘classical style’ can be found in the Florence - Pisa area. If you are after the kind of Tuscany villa you see in the movies, then you need to be looking much further North, the Veneto for example, rather than the Tuscan region of central Italy.
Indeed the reference to ‘Tuscan Villa’ can usually be more accurately translated as ‘Tuscan Farmhouse’. ‘Come and stay at our Tuscany Farmhouse’ would be more appropriate in most cases.
This is not to say that a Tuscan Farmhouse is any less imposing, or says less about your success, than a Tuscan Villa. Tuscan Farmhouses at the top end of the range are splendid ‘Case Padronale’ and are often referred to as ‘Ville Padronale‘, (the big important farmhouse where the landowner lived).
Lauded for its astonishing landscapes and artistic treasures it now boasts no less than six UNESCO protected sites; the ‘centro storico’ of Florence; ‘centro storico’ of Siena; in Pisa the piazza in front of the cathedral; the centres of San Gimingnano and Pienza; and the amazing Val d’Orcia.
