Liguria

Buying a property in Liguria

Also known as the Italian Riviera, Liguria is Italy’s third smallest region. Liguria’s Mediterranean coastline stretches from the French border to Tuscany.

Anyone travelling along the coastal motorway here, known as the Autostrada dei Fiori (literally, the motorway of the flowers) will see the acres of plastic greenhouses where the fiori are cultivated.

The great port of Genoa lies in Liguria, a city with a rich history in shipping and trade. Liguria’s economy today is largely tourism, olive oil, wine, fishing and various industries including ship and locomotive building.

A seaside apartment or villa on the Italian Riviera is just one aspect of property in Liguria. Head inland, even just a few kilometres from the coast, and reasonably-priced cottages and houses can be found in the many once isolated villages.

When buying a property in Liguria, whether you’re buying a villa, buying an apartment, or buying a farmhouse, it’s important that you understand that buying an Italian property is a very different experience to buying in the United Kingdom, Eire, USA, Canada and most northern European countries. Please read our page on the things you need to know about buying a property in Italy.
